The Client

The National Center for Community Schools (NCCS) has helped schools and districts across the country become community schools for more than 30 years. Founded by Children's Aid in 1994 and based in New York, it offers training, events, research and practical guides for principals, coordinators, district leaders and policymakers working to connect schools with the families and communities around them.

The Challenge

The National Center for Community Schools has spent more than 30 years helping schools and districts become community schools, and its website has to speak to everyone involved in that work: principals, community school coordinators, district leaders, researchers and policymakers. Over time NCCS's offering had grown well beyond a few service pages. There were conferences and virtual sessions running year round, a growing library of research and guides, national initiatives like Community Schools Forward, and new programs such as the Improvement Lab.

The website hadn't kept up. Events, publications and initiatives needed a structure of their own, so a practitioner could find the next boot camp or download the right framework without hunting for it, and the NCCS team needed to be able to add new events and resources themselves, often on short notice.

Our Approach

We organized the site around the questions visitors arrive with: why community schools, what NCCS does, who the team is, and where to find events and resources. Each of those became a clear section in a simplified navigation, with a "Let's build your community schools together" contact form closing out the pages, so anyone ready to start a conversation can do it from wherever they are.

We rebuilt the site on WordPress and Elementor, with events, publications and team members managed as structured content, so a new session or report only has to be added once to appear everywhere it belongs. The visual design leans on warm photography of students, families and educators, with the navy, orange and light blue of the NCCS brand carrying through every page. Our team also helped shape the copy, so each page explains the community school strategy in plain, welcoming language.

What We Built

The new site gives every part of NCCS's work a proper home. Choose a feature to see it on the live site.

  • Conferences, boot camps and virtual sessions each have their own page, with the date, format and cost shown up front through simple In-Person, Virtual, Free and Paid tags. Upcoming events sit in a carousel at the top of the calendar, and past sessions stay listed below as a record of NCCS's programming.

A design that reflects the mission

Bright photography of students, families and educators, set against NCCS's navy and orange, gives the site the warmth of the work itself. Consistent page layouts and clear headings make a complex, policy-heavy subject feel approachable to a first-time visitor.

Easier paths for every audience

Practitioners, newcomers, policymakers and researchers each have an obvious way in, from the role filter on publications to dedicated pages for each initiative. Calls to action into events and the contact form appear throughout, so interest turns into registrations and conversations.

Content the team can run themselves

Events, publications and staff profiles are structured content rather than one-off pages. NCCS can post a new session, upload a new report or add a team member in minutes, and it shows up in the calendar, library and listings automatically.

A modern, mobile-friendly foundation

The site is built on a current WordPress and Elementor stack and adapts cleanly to phones and tablets, where educators often check event details and resources. That gives NCCS a foundation that's straightforward to keep secure, up to date and growing with new programs.
